Klimabonus remains Luxembourg’s flagship energy renovation support programme in 2026. Following the changes at the end of 2025, here’s everything you need to know to maximise your grants and effectively finance your renovation work.
What is the Klimabonus?
The Klimabonus is a financial aid programme set up by the Luxembourg government to encourage energy renovation of homes. It replaces and unifies the former energy premiums into a simpler and more generous system.
The objective is twofold: reduce the energy consumption of existing buildings and decrease the country’s greenhouse gas emissions. For homeowners, it’s an opportunity to renovate at lower cost while increasing the value of their property.
The programme covers a wide range of works, from insulation to the installation of efficient heating systems, ventilation and renewable energies.
Works Eligible for Klimabonus 2026
Thermal Insulation
Insulation remains the cornerstone of any effective energy renovation. Klimabonus 2026 covers:
Wall insulation: external (ETICS) or internal insulation, with minimum performance requirements (U coefficient ≤ 0.2 W/m²K to receive the maximum amount).
Roof insulation: insulation of lost attics, converted attics or flat roofs. Performance requirements vary according to the type of insulation.
Floor insulation: insulation of the ground floor over cellar, crawl space or solid ground. Often overlooked, this insulation can represent up to 10% savings on the heating bill.
Window replacement: triple glazing mandatory for new installations. The Uw coefficient must be ≤ 1.0 W/m²K.
Heating Systems
Replacement of old boilers is strongly encouraged:
Heat pumps: air-to-water, geothermal or water-to-water. This is the most subsidised solution in 2026, with amounts reaching up to €12,000.
Pellet boilers: an interesting alternative for houses without access to the gas network or for those who prefer wood heating.
Hybrid systems: heat pump + backup combination for older houses or colder regions.
Important: Oil and gas boilers are no longer eligible for grants since 2025. If you still have fossil fuel heating, now is the time to plan its replacement.
Ventilation
Good ventilation is essential after insulation work:
Heat recovery ventilation (HRV): recovers heat from extracted air to preheat incoming air. Minimum 80% efficiency required.
Demand-controlled ventilation: more economical solution, suitable for light renovations.
Renewable Energies
Solar thermal panels: for domestic hot water production, with or without heating support.
Photovoltaic panels: although less subsidised than before, they remain eligible as part of a comprehensive renovation.
Grant Amounts in 2026
Klimabonus 2026 amounts have been adjusted compared to 2025. Here are the main grants:

|---|---|---|
| Wall insulation (external) | €80/m² | +€20/m² if U ≤ 0.15 |
| Roof insulation | €60/m² | +€15/m² if U ≤ 0.12 |
| Floor insulation | €50/m² | +€10/m² if U ≤ 0.20 |
| Triple glazed windows | €150/m² | +€50/m² if Uw ≤ 0.8 |
| Air-to-water heat pump | €8,000 | +€4,000 if COP ≥ 4.5 |
| Geothermal heat pump | €12,000 | +€3,000 if COP ≥ 5 |
| Pellet boiler | €6,000 | +€2,000 if efficiency ≥ 95% |
| Heat recovery ventilation | €3,000 | +€1,000 if efficiency ≥ 85% |
Comprehensive Renovation Bonus
An additional 15% bonus is granted if you carry out at least 3 different types of work within 24 months of the first project. This bonus encourages complete renovations rather than one-off interventions.
Social Supplement
Low-income households benefit from a 25% supplement on all amounts. Income criteria are reassessed annually and published on guichet.lu.

How to Apply
The application procedure has been simplified since 2025 with the integration of the housing premium.
Step 1: Before the Works
Have an energy audit carried out or at least an energy performance certificate (EPC). This document identifies priority works and serves as a reference for measuring improvements.
Request several quotes from approved craftsmen. Compare offers and check that the craftsmen are registered on the list of eligible professionals.
Step 2: Declaration of Intent
Before starting work, declare your project on guichet.lu. This step has been mandatory since 2025. You will receive a confirmation with a file number.
Step 3: Carrying Out the Works
Have the works carried out according to the validated quotes. Keep all documents: detailed invoices, technical data sheets for materials, site photos.
Step 4: Grant Application
Within 12 months of completing the works, submit your complete application on guichet.lu with:
- Paid invoices
- Compliance certificates from craftsmen
- The new EPC (for major renovations)
- Before/after photos
Step 5: Payment
After validation of the file (allow 2 to 3 months), the grant is paid directly into your bank account.
Can Klimabonus Be Combined with Other Grants?
Yes, Klimabonus can be combined with several other schemes:
Reduced VAT at 3%
Renovation works benefit from the super-reduced VAT rate of 3% instead of 17%. This reduction applies automatically if the property is more than 2 years old and you use a professional.
Zero-Interest Climate Loan
The SNCI (Société Nationale de Crédit et d’Investissement) offers a zero-interest loan of up to €100,000 to finance energy renovation works. This loan can be combined with Klimabonus.
Municipal Grants
Some municipalities offer additional grants. Check with your local council.
Energy Savings Certificates
Energy suppliers sometimes offer premiums for certain works. Check with your supplier.
Tip: By combining all available grants, you can finance up to 60-70% of your energy renovation costs.
Tips to Maximise Your Grants
Plan a Comprehensive Renovation
Rather than one-off interventions, plan a complete renovation over 2-3 years. The 15% bonus for comprehensive renovation can represent several thousand euros more.
Choose High-Performance Equipment
Performance bonuses can significantly increase your grants. A high-efficiency heat pump can earn you an extra €4,000 in premiums.
Have an Energy Audit Carried Out
The audit identifies the most cost-effective works for your situation. It’s an investment that pays for itself quickly.
Compare Quotes
Request at least 3 quotes for each work item. Price differences can be significant.
Check Craftsmen’s Approval
Only works carried out by approved professionals are eligible. Check their registration before signing.
Plan Ahead for Delays
Processing times can reach 3 months. Allow for this cash flow in your financing plan.
