How does the Klimabonus 2026 work?
The Klimabonus is Luxembourg's state aid programme for the energy renovation of existing homes. Each type of work qualifies for a subsidy: up to €100/m² for wall insulation (€80/m² + €20/m² performance bonus), up to €200/m² for window replacement, up to €12,000 for an air-water heat pump and up to €15,000 for a geothermal heat pump, bonuses included.
Two top-ups can apply: a +15% global bonus if you combine at least 3 different types of work within 24 months, and a +25% social top-up for modest-income households. The Klimabonus can be combined with the super-reduced 3% VAT (instead of 17%) and the climate loan.
A concrete example: how much aid for a typical renovation?
For a house with 120 m² of façade insulation (€9,600), an air-water heat pump (€8,000) and 25 m² of new windows (€3,750), the base Klimabonus reaches €21,350. Since three types of work are combined, the 15% global bonus adds around €3,200 — nearly €24,550 in subsidies. On a €60,000 works budget, the 3% VAT saves another €8,400 or so: over €32,900 of public support in total.
Frequently asked questions about the aid simulator
What subsidies exist for energy renovation in Luxembourg in 2026? +
Three main schemes can be combined: the Klimabonus (subsidies per type of work, increased by 15% from 3 work types), the super-reduced 3% VAT instead of 17% for homes over 10 years old used as a primary residence, and the climate loan to finance the rest. Some communes add their own grants.
Who is eligible for the Klimabonus? +
Owners of an existing home in Luxembourg (house or apartment, including co-ownership). Works must be carried out by professional companies and documented with invoices; the application is filed via MyGuichet. Detailed conditions are published by klima-agence.lu.
Can the Klimabonus be combined with the 3% VAT and the climate loan? +
Yes. The three schemes stack: the Klimabonus subsidy reduces the cost of the works, the 3% VAT applies directly to invoicing, and the climate loan can finance the remaining amount.
How do you get the 15% global bonus? +
By combining at least three different types of work (for example wall insulation, window replacement and a heat pump) carried out within a 24-month period. The bonus applies to the total of the base subsidies.
Do the works have to be done by a professional? +
Yes — only works invoiced by professional companies qualify for the subsidies. Via tack.lu, you describe your project once and receive up to 6 free quotes from verified craftsmen active in Luxembourg.
